so far during the RNC

itsstuckyinmyhead:

  1. Steve King claimed that white people have done more for civilization than non whites
  2. Melania Trump plagiarized a speech from Michelle Obama (that’s symbolic)
  3. Trump campaign denies that they plagiarized Michelle’s speech and cites a quote from my little pony
  4. Alaska yells at Ryan Paul for miscounting their votes
  5. Milo gets his twitter account deleted for abuse right before his gaysfortrump event (haha #FuckMilo)
  6. Chris Christie lead a witch trail
  7. Stephen Colbert took the microphone dressed as Caesar and claimed that he was starting the hungry for power games and then was escorted off stage but not before he said “I know i’m not supposed to be up here but let’s be honest neither is trump”
  8. RNC security tries to cover up a No Racism No Hate sign with an American flag (symbolic again)
  9. RNC got slammed when Ryan Paul took a selfie with interns, it was just a sea of white people and DNC responded with pictures of their interns who were more diverse
  10. Donald Trump was announced with “we are the champions” playing which naturally pissed off Queen
  11. the Internet lost it because  “We Are the Champions” is sung by Fred Mercury, a Bi man who died of AIDs in 1991 and Trump’s VP thinks HIV/AIDs funding should go to conversion therapy
  12. Laura Ingraham did a Nazi salute for .5 seconds which could have been a mistake (hmmmm)
  13. Ted Cruz refused to endorse Trump and was booed off stage (fuck ted cruz though he’s worse than Trump but damn that took some balls)

To the Sanders fans pissed about Bernie endorsing Hillary

willisninety-six:

You do realize why he is doing this right?

He’s consistently said again and again after the primaries that his #1 goal is to: STOP DONALD TRUMP FROM BECOMING PRESIDENT.

So, with that goal in mind, it would be an absolute fuckton of a disaster if Bernie were to run third-party or begged his supporters to vote for him write-in, you know why? Because it would split the Democratic vote up in half.
And because of that this would give them way less votes in order to beat Trump, and because of that Trump would lead in national votes in most states, and thus lead in the electoral vote, making him president.

Don’t believe me? Look at the 1912, 1968 and 2000 elections and tell me I’m wrong.

Bernie knows this too, that’s why he’s urging his supporters to vote for Hillary. He wants the Democrats united so Trump will be defeated.

He’s not “selling out”, he’s doing this so no supporter of his will either vote Trump or abstain from voting, and to make sure America continues progress. Progress that, unfortunately will be thwarted or reversed with Trump as president.

The political revolution fails if Trump is elected.

Also I would like to add this, copied from another friend discussing this…

“Then there’s also new murmurs that this move was intentionally done by Bernie so that he may speak at the DNC convention.
Had he not endorsed her today, they might have stripped him of his delegates. Currently, his campaign office is reaching out to delegates to ensure that they’ll still be coming to the convention.
I am not ready to lose hope. He may yet have an ace up his sleeve.
Currently, what he’s doing is running parallel to what JFK did.
So, I’ll wait until after the convention before I decide to abandon him for another.

Wait for the convention and hope he can pull off a miracle. He’s a chess player and he’s been in politics for a LONG time. The convention is the make or break for me.
I’m was Bernie or Bust. I’ve eventually become Bernie or Jill. Especially since she opened up the Green party for Bernie should he not get the nomination. Bernie cannot accept any offers like this before the DNC con or he wouldn’t be allowed the floor to speak his stances.
It’s a tacky situation. Just take a breath and hope he can pull it off.”

So let’s hope he’s playing a Trojan horse!

A California businessman wants to make this a reality

If you want to know who’s given money to California legislators, you can easily search an online database and find out. San Diego-area businessman and investor John H. Cox wants to make such information far more visible. Starting next month, he’ll begin gathering signatures for a statewide ballot initiative that would require legislators to wear the logos of their top 10 “sponsors” during public legislative sessions. He said the initiative is the first phase in a “two-step process”  of reform.

What happened?

His initial attempt failed due to a lack of funding, ironically enough.

But he’s not given up! His main website, California Is Not For Sale, is still up and running: X

And here’s where you can sign the petition to get this on the ballot: X

I wouldn’t be surprised if the reason his initial run at this didn’t work out because all the news articles about it failed to link to the petition. I’m also sure that’s not a coincidence.

So long story short, this is still a thing, and if you live in California, please participate in this! It will help everyone involved, and could set an important precedence!

You should also check out his other initiative, Neighborhood Legislature: X

This fantastic reform proposal seeks to redesign how representatives are selected, to make sure more public voices are heard. This, he hopes, will increase voter turnout as people feel more fairly represented!

For anyone following Australians right now:

The Liberal Party of Australia are the right-wing drongos who are only “liberal” in the way they liberally give money to the rich and liberally pilfer it from the poor, disabled, elderly, schools, hospitals, healthcare, renewable energy and so on. They also spend liberally on illegally detaining people who are fleeing war in concentration camps.

Just to clear that up for everyone.

bloody british immigrants, taking jobs from hardworking europeans

Jamaican poet Kei Miller wrote a very interesting essay about the difference between the ‘immigrant’ and the ‘expat’ which concluded with this:

My problem with the word ‘immigrant’ is that I am only an immigrant because I am Jamaican and I am black. I watch shows on British television of Britons who want to move to ‘A Place in the Sun’ – to a small village in France, or Morocco, or even Jamaica. Their impulses are the same as the woman from Kingston or the man from Lagos who moves to the UK. No one migrates for a worse life. But when the British pack their bags and leave they become Expats, not Immigrants. What a thing! The same process. The same act. But different words. Immigrants are not equal to Expats. Immigration is a problem; expatriation isn’t. Immigrants are expected to always be grateful, but a little bit angry. Expats are allowed to just be – to simply enjoy this new country that they have chosen to live in, and which they might very well choose to leave. The expat is allowed to be a savvy, cosmopolitan person who simply lives somewhere else than the place in which they were born and they don’t have to appear on panel after panel angsting about it all.

And that’s just in reference to the rest of the EU.

(Coming from someone who is generally assumed to fall into the “expat” category, by virtue of having come from the US. So is my Swedish partner. AFAICT, a lot of it seems to depend on perceived standard of living in your country of origin.)

Nothing is going to change. Americans love their guns more than they love people and after Sandy Hook we decided that killing over 20 children was acceptable and not outrageous enough to make reasonable restrictions on guns. This is America, a country that has been around for 200 years, a superpower, a 1st world nation, and one of the wealthiest countries on the planet and we refuse to protect our own people. We respect guns more than we respect the lives of people.

What specific gun control measures would you propose and how would they directly and effectively make society safer?

  • Absolutely get rid of all AR-15′s and the like.
  • Intense background and criminal background checks and anything violent automatically disqualifies you.
  • Make getting a gun/gun permit more like getting a driver’s license:
    • permit to learn
    • includes an exam with 18 or more questions on the policies, laws, and etc of guns and gun ownership
    • if you get more than 8 questions incorrect you must retake it.
  • 30 hours of practical experience at a gun range with a licensed teacher
  • Must take a 5 hour class on the dangers of guns and how to use them safely which will then yield you a certificate that grants you to take the practical exam and lasts for one year. If you don’t gain the license within the allotted year you must retake the class.
  • A practical exam with a licensed instructor who will grade you on various skills. If you pass you may be granted a permit on the weapon of your choice, the exams may differ on the type of firearm you want.
  • Follow the Japanese model where you must have two gun safes in different areas of the house, one to store the gun and one to store the bullets and you must provide the police with information on where those safes are.
  • No concealed carry and only handguns may be allowed to be out in public.
  • If transporting a weapon, it must be in the trunk of the vehicle, in a bag or some other case, safety on and unloaded and may not leave the vehicle until you are at the destination.
  • If you’re a hunter or some other gun hobbyist that requires a functional weapon other than a handgun then the gun must stay on the premises, whether that is a gun range or the Fish and Wildlife facility.
  • If you live in a rural area where police (and people, for that matter) are few and far between, something akin to a deer hunting rifle should provide plenty of protection from predators and poachers, you still have to follow the aforementioned steps.
  • This doesn’t cover everything but I think it’s a good place to start.

Can you show me evidence that this would directly and effectively create a safer society?

I have never laughed so hard at a gun law post. Like seriously, the evidence is in fucking reality. The proposed restrictions are just fucking logic.

honestly why is nobody talking about how someone attempted to assassinate trump yesterday

So it turns out that a lot of people didn’t know about this because the US media aren’t talking about the situation much at all, but there is some coverage here in the UK (I’m guessing this is because the man who attempted to assassinate him is British). What basically happened is a guy turned up to Donald Trump’s rally in Vegas the other day (I thought it was yesterday but it was actually Saturday) and attempted to steal a gun from a police officer to shoot Trump with, but ended up getting caught. When he was questioned the man say he was planning to kill Trump and had been planning to do so for about a year. if anyone wants to read more about it there’s an article here and here as well as a few others which can be found pretty easily online.

Damn. 😦 Best of luck on the next attempt!

The thing that baffles me is he thought the easiest place to get a gun was to snatch one from a police officer. It’s like he had no clue what the US was like about guns. Nevada requires no licensing, no background checks, and is open carry. Like dude just go to Walmart. You can also pick up some refreshing snacks for the trip.
