Fox News shocked that Harvard students think the US is a greater threat to world peace than ISIS. Students who don’t agree with Fox are ‘twisted’, elitist and wrong apparently.

Next Gen STAND UP

Did they miss the part where these kids said that ISIS wouldn’t exist without Imperialist intervention in areas like the Middle East? (I’m not singling out America because I’m British and we’ve been fucking up the world since long before America has)

I love how the Harvard students give strong arguments on why the U.S. (and its allies, of course, such as Canada and Western Europe) is one of the biggest threats to world peace and all Fox News can say is “this—this is just a FAD”

So, you’re saying that you think that democracy is flawed? Because that’s what I’m getting from this comic.

I always find it funny that people laud democracy and “the will of the people”, but only when it coincides with what they already believe. When it goes the other way, that’s when they drop all pretense and claim that “the will of the people” shouldn’t matter.

Political scientists have been calling democracy flawed since Aristotle.

Democracy has some pretty fundamental flaws, namely demagogues and lack of respect for minority rights.

Democracy is flawed. It’s got a lot of flaws. There are citizens in countries all across the globe that would have legitimate complaints with democratic systems, as opposed to something more oligarchic/aristocratic. There is a hefty majority of people in Russia and China who PREER their systems to American style democracy. Or even more European parliamentary democracy.

Plus, Donald Trump wouldn’t have won in a “democracy” anyway. I hate all the semantic “we’re a Republic, not a democracy” stuff, but it’s true. Especially if we’re getting into the pros and cons of “little d” democracy.

All that said, this wasn’t supposed to be a comment on democracy. People set up all kinds of institutions, media outlets, universities, ect… That create all kinds of “experts” but people don’t really give a shit about those experts when they disagree with them.

As someone who spent 4 years reading and writing about politics and will soon attend law school, it’s frustrating that when I discuss politics with my brother in law, for example.

He is a contractor who has worked in construction his entire life. His support for Trump is limited to “it feels right because he’s telling people how things should be.” I know for a fact he doesn’t read any news, doesn’t watch or listen to any news, and DEFINITELY DOESN’T have respect for the historical/policy nuance required to actually solve some of these problems. That doesn’t matter though, his opinion is as valid as mine.

And my opinion is as valid as experts who have done the same thing I have for literally decades.

It’s frustrating because I definitely don’t feel like I have the right to tell him how to build a sturdy building or pour the concrete for a sound foundation. But when it comes to politics years of hands on experience and research don’t really matter.

Oh, Hello There, Angry Trump Fan in the Comments!

alexanderckane:

Hello! It’s good to see you again, Irate Trump Fan yelling at the “sheeple” in the comments of your ex-coworker’s or second cousin’s post about how they actually like Hillary Clinton. You sure are showing everyone…something! I created this post because everyone is exhausted by your bullshit and no one has the time to write out long responses to your regurgitations from Breitbart and InfoWars, and if they did that would only mean talking to you more and that sounds awful. So, here are some answers to the garbage storm shooting out of your typing fingers.

Angry Trump Fan Claim #1: The Clinton Foundation is a sham, designed to enrich the Clintons.

The idea that the Clinton Foundation is an evil enterprise is 100% true if you are Malaria. Then you are correct, it is out to get you. Let’s start with the lie that only 6% of the Clinton Foundation’s budget goes to actual charities. Only 6% goes to other charities, while the Foundation does most of its own work. They have done great work across the world with health care, reforestation, education, and hope to one day MURDER JAMES BOND. Crap, I blew at the end, didn’t I?

Here is an article from FactCheck.org on that subject. You can also check CharityWatch, GuideStar, and Charity Navigator which all give the Clinton Foundation top ratings.

There is another myth that the Clintons have pocketed eleventy billion dollars from the Foundation because they spend all their own money on claw machines in arcades even though they’ve never once gotten a prize, but several times they really thought the claw had the stuffed bear in its grasp.

Hillary, Bill, and Chelsea make $0 from the Clinton Foundation. Here is Politifact’s analysis.

Then there are the charges of conflicts of interest. You’re probably yelling about uranium right now, so we should talk about uranium. The story is that Hillary Clinton took $145 million for the Foundation and in return allowed Russia to buy a company which has control over a significant amount of uranium. This story is bunk. One might say this story came straight out of uranus (DAD JOKE!).

You can read Politifact’s long breakdown, but the short version is a) 9 government agencies signed off on the deal and b) there’s no evidence that Clinton intervened at all in the deal.

There are also allegations that the Clintons allowed donors special access to Clinton when she was Secretary of State, but the smoking guns here are basically that she met with a Nobel Prize winning economist and Elie Weisel. (Washington Post).

Hillary Clinton has admitted they could have done a better job of keeping the Foundation better separated from her work. I personally have never run a charity that provide access to AIDS medications to 11.5 million people or lowered the cost of Malaria medication by 80-90% in several countries, but apparently it’s tricky. So, yes, we can criticize Hillary and Bill for not being diligent enough in eliminating any possible hint of impropriety while working to combat heroin addiction and providing healthier food to students in the United States.

But no, they did not pocket money or sell uranium to Lex Luthor.

Did you know Donald Trump has a foundation? He has illegally used the money from it to settle legal disputes, bribe Florida’s attorney general, purchase a painting of himself, and buy a helmet signed by Tim Tebow.  He has not contributed any of his own money since 2008.

Angry Trump Fan Claim #2: HILLARY DID BENGHAZI!

No, Hillary Clinton did not refuse to send support to Benghazi and no one was told to stand down instead of defending the embassy (except in the Michael Bay movie). And no one slept through Benghazi (except in the Michael Bay movie).

Media Matters has a full breakdown of all the myths and facts about Benghzai.

Most likely the controversy over Benghazi comes from the fact that it was the first US embassy attack in the history of the United States in an alternate universe because there were 13 attacks that killed 60 people during the Bush administration alone. This Politifact article actually breaks that number down a bit and shows it goes up if you count attacks on embassy employees outside the compound.

Four people died in Benghazi and it would be thoughtless to say that nothing can be learned from the tragedy and everything was done exactly as it should have been. The same is true of 9/11 under George W Bush, the USS Cole bombing under Bill Clinton, the death of hundreds of marines in Lebanon under Reagan, back to the British torching Washington, D.C. My point is that we used to all hate the British and we all worked together against them and I want to go back to that uniting, Brit-hating spirit.

Angry Trump Fan Claim #3: Donald Trump gets attacked for what he says about women, but nobody calls out Bill Clinton.

Here is a handy link to the answer to that question.

After you click that, go look at yourself in the mirror. Yeah, that’s a scumbag who blames women for their husbands’ infidelities. Pretty disgusting, right? Like you wanna look away and go get ice cream, but you don’t deserve ice cream.

Angry Trump Fan Claim #4: Hillary wants open borders, but Trump is going to build a wall. A Wonder Wall that Oasis could only have dreamed of.

Hillary Clinton does not support open borders

And Trump’s Wall? The worst idea to come out of Game of Thrones since your high school friend named her daughter Hodor? What is the goal here? More immigrants are going back to Mexico than coming in. More undocumented immigrants are entering the United States legally and then overstaying their visas than crossing the border. Why am I talking about a wall that is never going to be built? People get really emotional about this wall likes it’s their dad finally being proud of them. “OH, IT’S GONNA HAPPEN!”

Angry Trump Fan Claim #5: Hillary Clinton led us into war in Iraq and Donald Trump was against it.

It is now well known that Howard Stern asked Donald Trump in September 2002 if he was for invading Iraq and he said “Yeah, I guess so.” Now Fox News has released a clip of him talking to Neil Cavuto which they say proves he was against it. The quote that supposedly closes this case: “Well, he has either got to do something, or not do something.” Strong words for a leader. TRUMP 2016: HE’LL DO SOMETHING OR NOT DO SOMETHING!

Clearly Trump was just talking out of his ass, something I’m sure he is almost finished doing. He didn’t know the answer, but that didn’t stop him from talking. I’m sure he remembers that he was right, because he only remembers being right. After the first debate with Clinton he denied saying something he had said just an hour before. An hour! It was like Sam from Quantum Leap entered his body and had to answer a question but had no idea what had happened immediately before.

Hillary Clinton voted to authorize President George W. Bush to use military force in Iraq. She has said he had given assurances he would use this authorization to pressure the Iraqis to allow weapons inspectors, and she believed him. There are certainly people who did not believe this. Barack Obama and Bernie Sanders both opposed the war, and so she cannot claim that no one saw the mess coming, but she certainly was not leading the charge to war.

Can I comment right here how hilarious it is what conservatives are willing to now believe since Donald Trump says it. The Iraq War was now bad! Paid family leave is good! That’s great! He also has conservatives talking about how awesome Vladimir Putin is and that is batshit insane. This strong leader garbage he has fellow Republicans spouting is ridiculous. Putin has to murder reporters and political enemies to stay in power while he is destroying Russia’s economy. It’s like if one of your friends started telling you that candy corn tastes delicious, so you started pretending to eat candy corn, but candy corn is fucking disgusting.

No, but really, Trump is indebted to Putin’s cronies and is more concerned with pleasing Putin than defending American interests. If that last statement is wrong, it could be disproven by the release of Trump’s tax return which he refuses to release. This is a man that over 40% of America is going to say “Yes, please lead us, Giant Lying Russian Stooge!” on election day.

Angry Trump Fan Claim #6: This article from InfoWars says th-

Counterpoint: Fuck you. InfoWars is not a news website. It’s a white paranoia bunker run by a nutjob who said no one died at Sandy Hook. He saw a tragedy with 26 dead, 20 of them little kids and he made it about his own ridiculous delusions. Seriously, fuck InfoWars and fuck you for giving them clicks.

And fuck Breitbart, too.

Angry Trump Fan Claim #7: Hillary should be in prison!

Nope, she was investigated by the FBI and its Republican director who found no cause to prosecute her and there is no analogous case where someone who had made a similar error was prosecuted. Please don’t try to connect it to General Petraeus who had knowingly gave out classified information. That would be embarrassing for you.

The email server: Yes a bad move, which Secretary Clinton acknowledged. Was it illegal? Nope. Rules about private emails were instituted after she left. There is no evidence that any emails contained information considered classified at the time they were sent. If you read the articles linked here, you will see that there is definitely criticism of Secretary Clinton’s use of the server, which was, in technical political terms, a real boner.

If you read down this far, Angry Trump Fan, you found somewhere I conceded she erred! Congrats!

My personal guess is that she wanted to have some communications that wouldn’t be uncovered later and people would discover that she’d said Angela Merkel had shitty taste in music and Nicolas Sarkozy wore ugly hats. This is in a sense understandable, but not acceptable. Just like how the W. Bush administration lost 22 million emails. Y’all were equally pissed about that right?

Update: I received a message from someone who felt I had not accurately represented this issue, and that person was correct. This Politifact article finds that of the thousands of emails FBI Director Comey says110 contain classified information, but “Most of these emails, however, did not contain markings clearly delineating their status.” The article, in general, is very critical of Secretary Clinton and I’m linking to it because I do not want to be guilty of choosing my own reality that supports my candidate.

Angry Trump Fan Claim #8: Trump won the first debate! The polls say so!

Quick one: No they don’t. I’m not usually a believer in saying someone “won” a presidential debate, but when one is talking about policy and the other is farting out his mouth about how his son likes computers and maybe there are 400 pound hackers and Rosie O’Donnell and how it’s smart business to cheat people out of money and not pay taxes, then I’m willing to allow maybe Hillary Clinton won the first debate. And the real polls agree.

Angry Trump Fan Claim #9: Hillary invented Birtherism!

Nope. It’s possible that hard-core Hillary 2008ers were suggesting Obama was born in Kenya, but Clinton did not. In fact she fired an employee for sending out an email spreading that rumor.

But this is not about Hillary, this is about Trump who built himself up on racist bullshit and now is backing away from it because it’s politically expedient. It’s not just that he spread the lie and continued spreading it. He said he had investigators in Hawaii and “they cannot believe what they’re finding.” I CAN’T BELIEVE IT EITHER! NO ONE BELIEVES IT!

This is another one that fills me with delight in that his supporters looooovvvve to say “He’s no bullshit. He calls them like he sees them.” And here he is making it incredibly clear that either a) he was utterly full of shit for years and is now abandoning that lie because it’s no longer politically useful or b) he totally believes it still even with no evidence, but he’s willing to pretend he doesn’t to win votes. This is your straight-shooter, 40% of America.

Angry Trump Fan Claim #10: Hillary called me deplorable!

Maybe. She said half of all Trump supporters were deplorable. I do not know the percentage of Trump supporters that are deplorable, but there are a sizable chunk that are anti-black, anti-Jewish, anti-woman, and anti-anything-that’s-not-a-straight-white-Christian-male. In response to the comment, two of Trump’s advisors including his Fuckhead Son (official title) Donald, Jr. posted an image of The Deplorables, a photoshop of The Expendables poster with Trump allies’ faces placed over the stars’. Included in that are Alex Jones, Milo (a hateful race-baiting internet troll), and Pepe the Frog, a Neo-Nazi internet meme (UPDATE: More than one person has noted that Pepe the Frog was not created by neo-Nazis, but rather was coopted by them. If you’re interested, you can read here about the creator’s attempt to rescue his creation) . Junior claimed he had no idea what Pepe the Frog is, but we are well past the point where this over-privileged bag of leaking feces gets to claim ignorance of white supremacist jargon and symbols.

I have no clue what is in the hearts of Donald Trump’s supporters. Paul Ryan just wants to eliminate the estate tax for people worth over $5.45 million dollars. Some people will take anyone who will at least claim they’ll appoint Supreme Court justices who will overturn Roe Vs. Wade. But a lot want to turn back the progress made by minorities, and that I find deplorable.

And listen, I’m not going to call Donald Trump a racist. At least not without a hundred pieces of evidence. Which you can find here

Angry Trump Fan Claim #11: Hillary is a bigger liar!

This is such a weird one and it’s what I see most often. “She’s a bigger liar than Trump!” Considering pretty much every human lies, it’s impossible to say anyone isn’t a liar. I’m even not sure how you would rank who is a bigger liar. Luckily PolitiFact does and they made this.

Angry Trump Fan Claim #12: She was wearing an earpiece!

I forgot this one when I originally posted, so I’m adding it in because people still want to believe it. “Listen, Trump totally won the debate. I mean there were problems with his microphone and Lester Holt was so mean to him and Hillary had an earpiece but we’re not mistaking excuses we’re just saying!”

No, she did not wear a secret microphone, or an anti-seizure device, or a mystical amulet to animate her corpse since she obviously died decades ago. CAN’T YOU SEE CTHULHU IS BEHIND THIS!

The Florida GOP even retweeted an InfoWars link on this subject (Hey, fuck you again InfoWars!). The Florida GOP would quote a Ouija Board at this point if it told them Hillary had consumption.

Update: Angry Trump Fan Claim #13: Trump may be inexperienced, but he’ll surround himself with good people.

I’m paraphrasing a comment under my original posting of this article on Facebook, and I kinda thought it was a joke. Apparently people believe this. Can I use this moment to point out how much work people put into liking Trump? Can you imagine if they put one tenth of one percent of that effort into giving Obama a chance? People have convinced themselves that Donald Trump, a thieving, philandering con artist, is a moral, religious everyman.

Back to this idea that he’s going to surround himself with good people. Here are the people he has chosen so far:

a) Corey Lewandowski, his first campaign manager, was charged with battery for assaulting a female reporter. But, hey, the charge was dropped! That’s something!

b) Paul Manafort, Trump’s second campaign manager, was a former advisor for the Putin-backed Ukranian dictator and was paid in funds stolen from the state.

c) Steve Bannon: Trump’s current campaign chief changed Breitbart from a conservative news site to a home for white hate groups (Yes, I reused a link. You caught me). They have a section on the site called Black Crime.

d) Chris Christie: Not even Donald Trump believes Chris Christie, who is in charge of leading his transition team, told the truth about Bridgegate. While he’s avoided prosecution, both sides in the Bridgegate trial acknowledge he was aware, despite his constant declarations to the contrary.

e) Al Baldasaro: Oh you don’t know the co-chair of Trump’s veterans’ coalition? You might remember that he called for execution of Hillary Clinton. He continues to work for the Trump campaign.

f) Roger Fucking Ailes: Yes, Roger Ailes who harassed and extorted sex out of female employees for years, is an advisor to Donald Trump. Roger Ailes is a monstrous sexual predator and Donald Trump thinks he’s a cool guy who can hang.

No, Donald Trump is not going to surround himself with good people.

Update! Angry Trump Fan Claim #14: Hillary called all of Bernie Sanders supporters basement dwellers!

This is incorrect. She spoke empathetically of people who have been let down by the economy. That take might be biased because it comes from noted Bernie Sanders foe and longtime Clinton supporter Barney Fra…No, sorry that’s what Sanders himself said.

Update: Speed Round

Thanks to everyone who reblogged this. Since it keeps going, I thought I’d throw in a couple more that have come up since I first posted this. No, Secretary Clinton was not kicked off the Watergate Commision, No, she did not lose $6 billion as Secretary of State. No, bragging about grabbing a woman by the vagina without consent is not locker room talk, it is sexual assault. That last one is easy because I don’t need a link to a non-partisan website to prove it, I just need to not be a scumbag. I could spend years going through every fake controversy from John Podesta’s emails, but here are the top ten from PolitiFact. Yes, however, John Podesta’s risotto recipe does sound promising. No, the multiple women who have accused Donald Trump of sexual assault have not had their claims debunked. No, the polls aren’t rigged. No, voter fraud is not what’s going to keep Donald Trump from becoming president. Yes, there is a tape of Donald Trump discussing how great Hillary Clinton is from 2008. No, Al Gore did not contest the results of the election. He pushed for hand recounts during the legally mandated recount in Florida. George W. Bush sued to stop the recounts. Bush was the plaintiff, which is why it’s Bush v. Gore instead of Gore v. Bush. (Guys, Gorvy Bush sounds like a great name for a loony yokel on a sitcom). After the Supreme Court decision, Gore conceded and democracy kept chugging along.

And I think we’re done. I’m glad we took this ride together and you read all the way through this and now you don’t need to keep posting false garbage in everyone’s comments. Good-bye and you’re welcome.

Oh, and if you have any other questions about everything else wrong with Donald Trump, here is a handy link.

Hillary defended a child rapist. And she’s silenced women in the past. I’m not saying Trump is any better, but there’s a reason why Hillary Clinton is former Secretary of state, and it’s because what she did was so heinous when she let fellow Americans get dragged out in the streets of Benghazi and their bodies burned just for funsies. Obviously you’re free to pick who you want to vote for but I cannot rest with someone who has said ‘They’re dead now, lets move on’ referring to the victims.

leupagus:

Okay, well, fine. Let’s dance, buddy.

Yes, she sure did defend a man who was accused of raping a child. Because that was her job as a public defender. Do you know what a public defender is? It’s a defense lawyer for those who cannot afford an attorney but who are constitutionally given the right to one. If you think people who you believe are innocent are the only ones entitled to the rights of American citizens, then… okay. But a public defender – any lawyer – is obligated not only by law but by moral imperative to do her best for her client, even when she believes or even knows the client to be guilty. That’s how the system works in the US. Sorry if you’re just learning this now.

And If you actually believe that the tragedy of Benghazi was Hillary Clinton’s fault, you’re either solely feeding off of Fox News or you’ve decided that you’re just going to make up any old story that indulges your need to make Clinton into a psycho bitch from hell. I mean, “just for funsies”? What are you, fifteen damn years old? The fact of the matter is that Benghazi was an enormously complicated affair for which Clinton bears very little responsibility, unless you count the refusal of the GOP Congress to give the State Department more funds for protection to be Clinton’s fault. And as for what you can or cannot rest with, that’s up to you, but Clinton never said “They’re dead now, lets move on,” and in fact said precisely the opposite of that, so I for one would try to figure out something else to pretend to be outraged by.

There are two reasons why Hillary Clinton is former Secretary of State. One is that she wanted time to start her campaign for president. She’s been planning to run again in 2016 literally since July of 2008, and every single halfway politically aware person in the world understood that when she resigned as SoS in 2013, it was to focus on 2016. Nobody, except the very ignorant and the very prejudiced, think it had anything to do with her job performance; they knew that she was revving up to succeed Obama. Now, there are any number of people who were also pissed off at her because of that, and I’d be willing to bet anything that you, anon, were one of them. Because it showed just how ambitious Clinton was, that she’d devote three entire years of her life to running for president. I myself think it was also a really good thing to do for the country, because while you can half-ass being a competent Senator while running for President, the Secretary of State is a job that needs to be take up 150% of your time, energy, and attention. It is arguably a more demanding job than the Presidency. For her to resign from the State Department when it would have given her a pretty big boost in terms of prestige had she stayed there throughout her campaign showed me that not only was she serious about running, but that she was serious about making sure the country was being lead by the best people who were giving their utmost resources. John Kerry is a great Secretary of State. He’s also never running for President again. That’s who Obama needed in his second term, and that’s why Clinton left the State Department.

The second reason she left is that Hillary Clinton suffered a major concussion in December 2012. I’m sure that your ignorance of head injuries is just as vast and remarkable as your ignorance of both the legal system and the political system, but let me tell you: concussions are serious fucking business. You hear about football players and the like getting concussions and you see them play the next week, and that ought to make you have enormous fucking respect for those guys, because concussions can seriously fuck your head up. The damage can last for weeks or months or yes, even years – I am 100% positive that Clinton is still dealing with headaches, migraines, dizziness, and all of that jazz, because concussions can have after effects that last that fucking long. And you know what might not be a great thing to be doing when you’re recovering from a head injury? Being Secretary of State! Maybe instead of trying to deal with an injury like that, it’s better to rest for a few months and give a position that is enormously, fantastically important over to someone else who didn’t have a concussion! What do you think, anon, do you think that could possibly be relevant to the issue? Hmm?

So unless your position is literally that Clinton orchestrated a fucking concussion so that Obama could fire her with a good excuse (and please tell me you’re not so far down the rabbit hole that you’d believe a conspiracy theory I just made up), you can kindly fuck off with your moronic bullshit excuses for loathing a woman who’s been dealing with you and petty, small-minded twerps just like you for the last 40 years and who will be President of the United States just fine without your adulation, thanks.

hillary literally defended someone that raped a child, A CHILD. that is a bad person, jfc.

This is literally a very short google search anon w t f

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2014/jul/17/did-hillary-clinton-ask-be-relieved-rapist/ –> READ THIS BUT FIRST:

tldr;

(A) She was appointed as her client’s attorney by the court system; she did not volunteer for the case.

(B) She asked to be removed from the case because she was grossed out by it, but the judge denied her request.

© She didn’t “free” her client; she negotiated a plea deal for jail time, LIKE EVERY DEFENSE ATTORNEY IS LEGALLY REQUIRED TO DO.

(D) If she did not zealously advocate for her client, or purposely tanked the case, she would have faced disbarment from the legal profession. (SHE WOULD HAVE LOST HER JOB)

(E) In the 1980 audio interview, she talked about how her client somehow passed the polygraph that she’d hoped would have helped prove his guilt, and then laughed while saying that since then she never trusts polygraphs, ever.

(F) Even the picture used is not the actual victim, and you can be damned well sure they used a tearful angelic blonde little white girl to drive the hate.

but tldr; yes she defended a child rapist , no she didn’t really have a choice despite finding the case disgusting, because as a civil attorney YOU LEGALLY STILL HAVE TO REPRESENT THEM NO MATTER HOW ICK IT IS (this is what LAWYERS DO, they have NO CHOICE). She was essentially forced into it by her firm, and she made the guy take a polygraph test hoping that would prove him guilty. But when it didn’t prove him quilty (since he passed the polygraph ) she said she forever lost her faith in those tests.

Also, just FYI, in case you’re looking for a law degree, please know that this is STILL required of attorneys today. If you request to get removed from a case because you don’t like it and the court keeps you on you are legally bound to do so irrespective of how you feel about it.

No one is saying that every it of what that man did isn’t super horrible or gross.

But …

being legally bound to defend a rapist

≠ being an advocate for rape.

Also – bit of history for ya– despite this one gross case (among other civil cases no doubt) the Rose Law Firm she working for was known for actively taking cases for and defending groups like The Black Panthers. #tbt

Please do REBLOG/SIGNAL BOOST this post – the amount of anon messages I’ve gotten in the last 24 hours about this exact topic is uncanny

People need to know the truth.

i’m really relieved to hear this

the greatest success of the republican party this election has been the demonization of Hillary Clinton, to the point where people actually believe she’s on the same level as trump.

she isn’t.

EVERY DEFENDANT IN AMERICA IS ENTITLED TO AN ATTORNEY.  PERIOD.  END OF STATEMENT.

Jesus God, I hate Internet meme.

One of my mother’s dearest friends is a public defender and I can confirm the non-negotiable aspect of this. She’s told us stories of murder and rape cases where she’s had to defend people she knew were guilty. IT WAS NOT A CHOICE, it was her being legally required to fulfill the CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS that even the most heinous criminals still have.

I’m so tired of trying to combat the literal lies and slanders people actually believe about Hillary. It’s exhausting.

Just a reminder for fans of the Founding Fathers that John Adams (yes, that John Adams) defended the British soldiers who had fired on the crowd in the Boston Massacre because they too had the right to be represented by counsel, even though he didn’t want the case and knew he would get hate for taking it.

“The Part I took in Defence of Cptn. Preston and the Soldiers, procured me Anxiety, and Obloquy enough. It was, however, one of the most gallant, generous, manly and disinterested Actions of my whole Life, and one of the best Pieces of Service I ever rendered my Country.”

Remember when like 6 Americans had ebola and it was an international emergency, and Obama flew out to meet survivors?
Here is a list of things the United States government did in response:
-Increasing the number of Ebola testing labs throughout the U.S. that can quickly and safely screen a potential Ebola specimen
-Educating more than 150,000 health care workers on how to identify, isolate, diagnose, and care for patients under investigation for Ebola
-Developing countermeasures — including the first Ebola vaccine to progress to Phase 2 testing — to prevent and treat Ebola
-Converting at least 10 of the Ebola Treatment Centers into long-term Regional Ebola and Pandemic Treatment Centers for long-term readiness for years to come
-Helping state and local public health systems accelerate and improve their operational readiness and preparedness for Ebola or other infectious diseases

When the Reagan administration was faced with tens of thousands of gay men dying, they did nothing. They made jokes. They laughed. They caused an epidemic that killed 40 million people, because they hated gay men and thought we deserved to die.

There is so much more to it.  There is a myth perpetuated by Reaganites that he was an historically significant  President, in some positive sense.  If you are old enough to have voted in 1980, you probably know differently.  If you were born after 1980 you have been raised on this myth.  He sold Americans a fable about a Hollywood movie-like exceptional past and destiny, and led ordinary people around with portrayals of that mirage while his reactionary robber-baron friends set about dismantling 50 years of progressive advancements for working men and women, on their way to returning themselves to the position of unfettered economic domination they held between the Civil War and the Great Depression.  He was a union buster.   He gave us Scalia – need I say more?  He tried to give us Robert Bork (does anyone under 30 even know who he is?).  He lied about Iran/Contra.  He avoided dealing with AIDS.  He sealed the political sham-show between right wing capitalist kings and the evangelical thought-control snake-oil salesmen.  Americans don’t want to hear that they are ordinary citizens of the world, and they don’t want to hear that the aren’t anointed by some deity to lead the world to salvation.  They lapped it up, and they continue to do so.

I have to wonder how the response of a more competent presidency to the AIDS crisis might have changed even the global impact of the disease. Where might we be today? How many millions of people would be alive and not suffering? Yes, Reagan was historically significant—for fucking things up in a globally devastating way.

When you hear how he slashed Income taxes, he did on the Wealthy, but he increased the lowest tax rate from 10% to 15%.

His campaign was funded by Christian radicals, whose entire goal was to dismantle Roe vs. Wade and see American women relegated once more to back alleys and dirty knives.  He opened the door to religion in politics in a way the postwar McCarthyists never dreamed possible.  Now, 36 years after his election, maybe a third of American medical schools offer proper access to even first-trimester abortion training (in an era where that should mean a pill or vaginal suppository), and there are currently fewer doctors trained to perform late stage abortions for the entire US than there were pre-RvW (when such operations were only performed as a heroic measure).

And no one has even touched on his legacy of racial
hatred, deliberate destruction of black communities and establishing of COONTELPRO to destroy the lives of black panthers and black activists, his actual murder of black activists and more. He was actually a demon.

If you want to know how many lives could have been saved if the Reagan government had just fucking BUDGETED for AIDS research instead of telling AIDS researchers that they had to beg, borrow or steal any money for AIDS from other programs–then read And The Band Played On:

Politics, People, and the AIDS Epidemic, 20th-Anniversary Edition

by Randy Shilts. And be prepared to have your heart broken at the unadulterated and wildly irresponsible waste.of time and human lives.

Other shitty things Reagan did:

1) He almost tripled the National Debt. And you need to see the difference with zeroes:

When Reagan took office in 1980: $909,100,000  owed.(909.1 billion)

When Reagan left office in 1988:  $2,601,300,000,000 owed. (2.6 trillion)

2) He raised taxes on the middle class and the poor ELEVEN TIMES while in office

3) Unemployment soared after Reagan passed his tax cuts for the rich, and it took decades to get back down again.

4) He turned the U.S. into an illegal weapons dealer.

5) He funded terrorists, helping create the Taliban and Osama bin Laden. From NewsOne:

After Ronald Reagan was elected in 1981, U.S. funding of the mujahideen increased significantly and CIA Paramilitary Officers played a big role in training, arming and sometimes even leading mujahideen forces.

The CIA trained the mujahideen in many of the tactics Al Qaeda is known for today, such as car bombs, assassinations and other acts that would be considered terrorism today.

6) When his economic policies began wreaking havoc on the government, Reagan stole from Social Security–to the tune of 2.5 TRILLION–treating it for eight years as the private slush fund of himself and his rich friends

7) [T]he Reagan administration demonized opponents of apartheid, most notably the African National Congress, as dangerous and pro-communist. Reagan even vetoed a bill to impose sanctions on South Africa, only to be overruled by Congress.

They called him the Teflon president for a reason. All this shit–and none of it stuck to him. He got away clean every single time.

Reading up on Nelson Mandela I caught wind of that fact a few years back. The standing President of the US was more than a little ok with not condemning Apartheid even as a symbolic gesture.

That coupled with all of this and it speaks to an impossibly gross legacy. Of course the Neocons of the Republican set look at him as some sort of Conservative Jesus, so none of this would get actual traction with them. But email scandals are beyond the pale…

This is just PRESIDENT Reagan, don’t forget about the time when he was governor of California and closed the state hospitals which is why there are so many mentally ill homeless people here.

Ronald Reagan got off scot-free for just happening to be president at the same time our long standing greatest enemy at the time (USSR) fell apart due to internal reasons

A final response to the “Tell me why Trump is a fascist” by marisam7 on Reddit.

I’m pretty sure no sane human needs more information to vote for someone else and prevent the next dictatorship.

Again, how can people honestly think Hillary and him are the same.

And this doesn’t even include his statements of two days ago that he’s not going to commit to honoring the USA’s trade agreements and mutual defense treaties with other nations. The man is dangerous AF.

We’ve been saying this for over a year now.

What more is it going to take

The thing is, anti-Trump types are bringing facts to a flame war.
“We’re tired of experts” isn’t just a Brexit sentiment. His supporters are also tired of experts, because of a growing anti-intellectual movement that believes in following your gut. Until we learn how to respond in kind, all the facts in the world objectively pointing out how terrible he is aren’t gonna matter.

There are 100 U.S. Senate seats representing the America people, but as of this day in 2016, not one is occupied by a black woman. And in fact, the Senate is 94 percent white and 80 percent male.

The Senate is charged with overseeing all branches of the federal government. Senators propose author and vote on federal laws that really effect every aspect of our lives, both at home and abroad. They’re supposed to represent, uphold and protect the interests of the American people at the highest levels of government, so there’s a huge miss to not have black women, with our brilliance and contribution and commitment, at the table.

But only one black woman has ever been elected to serve in the U.S. Senate. That was a Democrat from Chicago who was elected in ‘92 and she only served one term. That’s Carol Moseley Braun. Now this year, in 2016, the Democratic Party had the opportunity to elect a second black woman to the Senate. Out of the state of Maryland we had an opportunity to elect a strong progressive, a true champion, a supporter of social justice, who knows and understands first hand the realities that face people today. So let’s take a closer look at how that played out.

Her name is Donna Edwards. That’s Congresswoman Donna Edwards, and the Democratic Party – the party that prides itself on being the party of inclusion – missed the moment. Democrats failed to see the value of a progressive black woman serving in the U.S. Senate (and instead, immediately funded and endorsed her white male, primary opponent, Chris Van Hollen).

Congresswoman Edwards knew big money would try to discredit her candidacy … but the Democratic Party, it’s leadership and some key members of congress did not join her in the fight. In fact, they worked actively against her, and as a result, the party failed us miserably.

da-at-ass:

Hi so please vote Hillary so trans people can stay on hormones and go to the bathroom.

It would be nice if you could save your shows of write-in candidate bravado for a year when trans people aren’t being openly attacked and attacks on them literally aren’t part of the Republican platform.

I mean Bernie gave Hillary his endorsement and if he’s obviously gonna vote for her and not himself or a third party I think it’s time to vote for Hillary to not wreck a bunch of people’s lives for the sake of a spiteful political gesture.

This trans person says thanks.
