Someone once asked why I take so many ‘dark’ photographs and perhaps instead I should try some ‘light, happy’ ones.

I look to the drama in landscapes and powerful atmospheres to try and capture the bucolic beauty of the countryside that was so instrumental to romanticism. I try to find a way of showing a powerful emotional connection.

Faroe Islands by Julian Calverley

From the Artist: We recently spent a wonderful week on the Faroe Islands, shooting for Land Rover.

These beautiful islands have an atmosphere all of their own, so when I’m asked to describe them, it’s hard to make a comparison to anywhere I’ve been previously, the only one I can come up with is a vague cross between Iceland and parts of N.W Scotland, but really it is quite unique.

Onward, steed!

This happened and humans still think they are the only intelligent life form on earth…

It didn’t happen, though. At least not naturally. It’s a common trend for photographers like Hendy Mp (who took the above) to use wire and string to achieve some of the unusual poses you see in “cute, funny, Facebook-able” nature photos like this. In reality, it just stresses out the subjects :/

You can read a little more about it here.
